Speaking with Channel NewsAsia on the sidelines, Liew pointed to a shift in how organisations are approaching headcount decisions in an AI-driven environment.

“We are seeing slower hiring because many firms believe that the advancement of AI tools could raise the productivity of existing staff. As a result, the pace of hiring has slowed while organisations assess how these new AI tools will augment their workforce.”

On what this means for workers, Liew was clear that adaptability – and a willingness to grow with technology – are the right responses.

“While AI adoption is accelerating, it is not replacing humans. Professionals who can leverage AI will have a clear advantage over those who cannot – making upskilling, reskilling, and adaptability essential for long-term employability.”
